ACL and Muscle Injuries

Strategies and approaches to optimize functional recovery and return to peak performance

The event, divided into two sessions, will focus on a comprehensive analysis of the recovery pathway from sports injuries, with particular attention to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and muscle injuries.

The first session will explore the topic of ACL injuries, starting from surgical choices and the different reconstruction techniques. The mechanism of injury will be analyzed to understand how to design an effective and personalized therapeutic pathway. Significant attention will be given to the early and mid stages of rehabilitation, with practical guidance on how to structure the recovery process. The progression toward a return to running and sport-specific movement will also be examined. Particular emphasis will be placed on the criteria that determine a safe return to performance.

The second session will focus on muscle injuries and strategies to optimize functional recovery. Clinical assessment, medical management, and rehabilitation principles across the different stages of recovery will be discussed. Load progression and on-field workload management will be further explored to reduce the risk of reinjury.

The afternoon will conclude with a roundtable discussion to address when an athlete can be considered truly ready to return to play.
